Dear Ones, a slice of Life:

Me 6:00 a.m.: “Yogananda, God, be with me and in me, shining your blessings on everyone I meet today. Thank you!”

Me at 8:30 a.m.: “I think I’ll go see (a favorite co-worker) and have a pleasant chat as I fulfill an administrative duty in her office. There will be candy! TGIF!”

Yogananda (as a thought in the back of my mind): “Go check on David.”

Me, walking into the hallway away from my office: “I don’t need to see him, I worked with him on Tuesday. That was our day. Today’s schedule does not include this — I’m not even normally in this school building right now. Now is the time for administrative tasks.”

Yogananda (as a growing sense of emotional tension): “You are here now. Go to David’s classroom and check on him.”

Me: “Master, I can feel you moving my feet in the direction of his classroom against my will. OK, I will go to him. I don’t want to, but go ahead and guide my feet.” I experience a weird sensation of watching myself do something completely outside of my will, without any idea of the outcome.

Peeking into his math class, Me: “He’s not here! All is well.”

Yogananda: “Look into his other classroom next door.”

Me: “Good morning! I see David is working independently. How is everything? Is there unfinished weekly work I can help with?”

We leave the classroom with plenty to do for the next hour. In my office, we have a fun time talking, laughing, strategizing about language, sharing his stories, and getting the work done. I do love this kid, and I know I am able to relate to him in a way that brings out his confidence.

David, smiling on our way back to his classroom: “It’s so much better when we work together.”

I remember my morning prayer and realize that not only is the Divine using me to shine on those I meet, but he also, through others like David, shines on me. Naturally… It is all God loving God, if we just let our egos get out of the way.

Come meditate with us, and let’s saturate our minds with ego-quelling peace!
