Dear Friends,
It’s true that meditation can elude us at times. A big block comes from all the media in our faces, which we willingly cooperate with! Staring at our phones, scrolling through reels and posts (even “nice” ones), startling news items, and binging on movies and series on streaming apps — this is the new normal. In fact, it takes a lot of energy and discipline in order not to indulge in this mental junk food.
Then, we sit in meditation, where not only the stuff of our lives, but also everything we’ve watched, forms a smokescreen that obscures our concentration on the subtle, inner sight and sounds. Such was my experience as I sat in meditation yesterday, patiently wading past the murky waters of media-produced scenes, returning to the mantra again and again, until finally the mental scenes started to fall like silt. Suddenly, the thought came to me: This is like clearing your browser history. And it takes time.
When we successfully meditate, we bathe the nervous system with soul energy, which helps us start afresh and not be stuck with old patterns, old algorithms. We can free ourselves from the same stuff appearing in the “scroll” of daily life. When a barrage of thoughts and scenes relentlessly parade across my mental landscape during meditation, I sweep them away with the firm question, “Who am I?” I find this to be an effective tool!. And just keep meditating, never claiming defeat.
So, please join us on Sundays, or practice faithfully your good meditation habits at home. Clear your browser history and become who you are really meant to be: more YOU!
